A Thrilling White House Drama Rooted in Today's Political Tensions (4 stars)

Enemies Domestic, the sixth book in the Lark Chadwick series, is an edge-of-your-seat thriller dealing with themes relevant to today’s political climate. Lark Chadwick, recently appointed as the White House Press Secretary, is struggling to come to terms with an unplanned pregnancy while still grieving for her boyfriend. Things quickly spiral out of control when a conservative media outlet makes a false accusation regarding Lark’s character, causing a chain of events leading up to a national crisis that leaves the very fate of American democracy at stake.

DeDakis is a skilled storyteller, and his time as a CNN journalist certainly contributes to the sense of realism. He moves swiftly from incident to incident, keeping the reader engaged and constantly wondering what will happen next. The topics covered in Enemies Domestic border on prescient, and readers will find themselves rooting for Lark to prevail against a stealthy, insidious threat to the American government. Can be read as a standalone.
